You've said a lot of incredibly valid things in this essay, Penguin- so why, before writing this, did you spend so much time viciously attacking those of us on the Left- including the Left in the US- who've been saying this long before you did.

How, might I ask, did you come to the conclusion that YOU are entitled to make these observations and those of us on the Left somehow weren't?
