Why would it be a big deal if there wasn't another Republican president. I remember the late Eighties, when Republicans were smugly predicting there would never be another Democratic president. If that wouldn't have been a tragedy, why would the end of Republicans in presidential politics be a tragedy? It's not as though either of our current major parties deserves to be the permanent party of government.
