Those of us who have benefited from white supremacy, however, do have a responsibility to address and to end all of the injustices white supremacy inflicts.
One way to start on that is for all of us who identify or are called "white"(at term that didn't exist before the 18th Century, btw) to accept that we don't actually represent "the gold standard" or "the default mode" in life-that we don't work any harder or live any more decently or are any less irresponsible or undisciplined or criminal than anyone else- and that, when the time comes that this country does have a non-white majority, there will be nothing tragic in that and no cause for rigging any of our systems of governance to give white people a greater say than anyone else.
