The shocking thing is that this ISN'T shocking- that huge numbers of my fellow Americans think this it is perfectly acceptable for a teacher to "other" a student like that- that being treated with respect is not something that should simply be a natural right, but a privilege to be "earned".

This is what we are coming to as a country now.
