The people who argue that individual Black success proves structural racism isn't a thjng are the same people who'd have argued that Jim Crow wasn't a thing because W.E.B DuBois got his books published, Paul Robeson could get concert gigs from the Twenties 'til he was blacklisted, and Hattie McDaniel won an Oscar for GONE WITH THE WIND. To that sort of mind, things like that proved that the Klan and the lynchings were no big deal, and that we never needed civil rights legislation at all.
