The flaw in that argument is that Netanyahu has said- and in saying, probably doomed the hostages- that he won't stop the war even IF the hostages are released.

Yes, the hostages should never have been taken- as Israel should never have taken 500 Gaza children hostage since Oct 7- but no, it isn't as simple as "the war ends if the hostages are released" and likely never was- especially since we have ample documentation that Netanyahu actually helped channel funds to Hamas for years, just to "thwart a two-state solution", and has said that people who oppose a two-state solution-i.e., people who agree with Netanyahu in backing permanent war- should support "Bolstering Hamas".

We know he said that. And we know it proves that his party has never given a damn about the survival of the Israeli hostages.
