OK...this is the passage where the author explained, late in the essay, why she referenced racism: "Even if the writer never explicitly says it, we know the implications of being a low-maintenance free spirit. She is white and able-bodied. She won’t ask anything of the man around her. She’s willing to expand his mind and never need emotional support in return".
