It’s Time To Retire The Term “Pro-Family”-Nobody is ANTI-Family!

Nobody in this country is “anti-family”. Family abolition is not on anybody’s agenda. The only disagreement is what does and doesn’t count as family. MOST people recognize that the 1950s model of “the family”(which only really existed on small, black-and-white screens in the forms of sitcoms with obvious ‘laugh tracks’) is not the only valid form of family. Families with non-traditional parents, families where co-parenting goes on happily and successfully even when a marriage has ended, families based on multigenerational households and what Hillary Clinton was actually referencing in the image of “a village”, which wasn’t government assistance but people in an entire community looking out for each other and their kids- are just as much “family” as the mythical “traditional” model(which was actually only traditional for about 100 years in this country), are just as healthy and supportive as that model, if not sometimes healthier, and ALL deserve validation, respect and support.

It’s not “pro-family” to force every woman to either carry every pregnancy she is physically capable of co-conceiving to term, OR to expect her never to have sexual relations with anyone.

It’s not “pro-family” to close off avenues of escape for women and their children when they are victims of “intimate partner violence”, in the name of keeping a tomb posing as a home intact in its previous form.

It’s not “pro-family” to force LGBTQ teens to face being outed to their abusive, homophobic/transphobic parents, who will…
