It’s morally essential for women to control the decisions made regarding whether or not they carry a pregnancy to term because if they do not, they are not living in a status of legal and moral equality to men. Most women will choose NOT to have an abortion-that’s why the term is “pro-choice”, not “pro-abortion”; no one is trying to get women who wouldn’t have sought abortions to have them, and “pro-choice” also means opposing forced sterilization, since the state should neither have the right to force women to carry pregnancy terms nor to make it impossible for women to conceive. The best way to minimize the number of abortions is to reduce the reasons women feel they need one; ban employment discrimination based on pregnancy; pass paid caregiver leave so that women(or men) can pass universal healthcare so women can keep every child they have healthy; get society to accept that no woman should ever be stigmatized or judged simply for giving birth; measures like that would do far more to reduce the incidence of abortions than banning it.
