It didn't help the cause of personal reconciliation with the rest of the group that, shortly after Pete was fired, George was beaten up at the Cavern by some Best fans- there's been a long-time theory that it was actually George who pushed harder than anybody else in the group for Pete's ouster- when they played live, George was positioned directly in front of Pete's kit, and could hear how well or badly Pete was playing far better than John or Paul, each of who was usually at the far edges of the stage.
