It always bothered me that the right wing stole NETWORK's catch phrase "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" Right wing people in 1978 had nothing whatsoever to BE mad as hell about...they never suffered any injustices from anyone- and Paddy Chayefsky, the writer-director of the film and a Hollywood Blacklist victim for his Left poliltics- never intended the phrase to be used for a demagogic campaign to exempt rich old white people from paying property taxes and massively reduce funding for the University of California system just at the moment it had finally stopped barring people of color from attending it.

No white property-owning conservative in California had anything to be "Mad as Hell!" about- their lives were nothing but gated-community privilege.
