Indeed, country music needs to admit, once and for all, that it was born of Black music and that it never had any excuse for being the official music of bitter end white supremacism in the 50s and 60s or of the racist triumphalism of the Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Trump campaigns.

Country needs to renounce all of that- unjustified white resentment of everyone else should never have been part of its business plan- and walk in the sun as a music of the present and the future.
