"I’m sure some people thought Jesus was an embarrassment to his community. His own mother was probably embarrassed by his behaviour at times. But that should be considered irrelevant to the question of whether his actions or words were right or wrong".

Good point.

My own sense is that most "evangelical 'Christians'" would be embarrassed by the actions of Jesus if He appeared among them today- they would see an angry, confrontational, disruptive hippie-looking dark-skinned socialist Jew and, in all liklihood, call the cops on him, just as they'd call the cops on anyone who was Black or Brown or "Muslim-looking" that walked down the street where they live.
