Look, I'm going to surprise you here.

What happened to you back then was wrong.

The INDIVIDUAL black guy who did that was out of line, and you were falsely accused. In every just cause, there will be people who manipulate the cause for their own ends.

Does that invalidate the cause itself?

If we take that thinking to its logical extreme, the American Revolution is invalidated because some supported it mainly to keep their slaves, and because the sense of White Protestant entitlement it created led to what can only be called the latter-day heresy of "Manifest Destiny", the assertion that the Christian Godhead had somehow decided that North America was to be the exclusive preserve and domain of White Christians.

I doubt you'd accept that argument.

And of course, white gentrifiers don't always consciously intend to drive everyone out, but t

hey aren't conscious of the effects they have-because they drive up property values, they increase property taxes for the existing residents, which itself drives up rents. If these gentrifiers want to avoid driving others out, they need to be going to the city council and supporting "grandfather" clauses that protect existing residents from property tax and rent hikes.

As to proof that I am "not an asshole"- what I post about is ideas, btw; why do you take any and all disagreement with your views as personal attack?- if I met you in person, I'd shake your hand, offer to buy you a cup of coffee or beer or whatever, and seek to have a normal, human conversation with you, one where we'd maybe talk about sports or music or something, maybe share jokes. How about that?
