If they hadn't split in 1980, if they had voted the ideals they grew up with rather than discarding them simply because a few of them had car payments or something, Reagan would have been stopped and we would have a far more caring, empathetic, and decent nation today. Instead, they elected the man whose sole achievement, up to 1980, was making meanspirited, judgmental selfishness sound folksy.
