Could you clarify what you meant by that? The phrase you used there startled me, I suppose, because the agenda the Democratic Party supports now is about ten degrees to the right of the policies the average Christian Democratic government in pre-1989 West Germany or Italy, or any Gaullist government in France would support.

I'm glad you support the relatively progressive things you indicated you support there, but am not sure why you would think the Democratic Party even NEEDS to be "reigned in", when they seem to do a brilliant job of reigning themselves in.
