I deeply respect Morgan Freeman as an actor- as a person, though, I think he is too deeply traumatized and damaged- though I doubt he'd accept that description and might even consider it an insult- by having spent most of his life in Mississippi, a place where he'd have to have spent most of the time "code-switching"- to respond in any other way than he does.

It may be too late for him to change, and I think we have to see him as he is- a person who will never recover from the wounds of history and is convinced by his wounding experiences that he must always speak and live with caution around and in deference to arrogant and potentially violent white overlords.
