Every Black person that ever lived from the time the Confederate Battle Flag- which is what that flag actually was, it was never the national flag OF the Confederacy- in exactly the same way that every Jewish person in the post-1933 era sees the swastika. The two banners are immorally equivalent. And the "heritage" it supposedly represents was never anything but a heritage of hate- why do you think the flag was raised by every segregationist in the South in the Black Freedom Movement era of the 1950s-60s? Why do you think numerous segregationist state governments incorporated it into their state flags in that era?
And I say this as the descendant of the owners of enslaved humans. What my despicable ancestors did in the antebellum age was the sum total of what "Southern heritage" ever meant. Eternal shame on them and you should really ask yourself why you'd want to even come close to trying to rehabilitate a hate flag, a flag which brought nothing but oppression and death.
