And, in support of your points here, let me point out, as a white person, yet AGAIN, that the "content of their character" line in the I HAVE A DREAM speech was NEVER a demand that the white power structure and white America be exempt from structural critique and collective responsibility for the continuation of institutional raciam, and was never a reduction of the Black Freedom Movement- the original name for the cause, which they traded out to the "Civil Rights Movement" because they felt that my fellow white people wouldn't be able to handle the idea of the words "Black" and "Freedom" being right next to each other- to nothing but the struggle of disconnected individuals, without changing the overall status of the Black community.
