Also, Hamas isn't "popular with Labour types"- it's just that the people you refer to that way accept the reality that it isn't possible to militarily defeat either Fatah or Hamas- at least not without causing something worse to appear after the defeat, with a guarantee that nothing better could ever appear- and that peace can only be made by actually negotiating with the armed factions.

What other choice is there, Mike? This can't end with a Palestinian delegation signing an unconditional surrender treaty on the 21st-century equivalent of the deck of the USS Missouri- the days of wars ending like that are over forever, my friend.
