Ah, the old "some of my best friends are..." canard. The fact that individuals in a historically oppressed community achieve success doesn't prove the oppression and the disadvantage doesn't exist. Nobody would argue, for example, that the kind of systemic antisemitism that led to the Holocaust didn't exist simply because the Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges were able to make movies, and Mendelsson's symphonies were performed...or that Jim Crow wasn't real in the 1930s because Paul Robeson could do concert tours...or that this country wasn't brutally homophobic in the 1950s because Liberace had a tv show.
